As I’m writing this the third Dynamic Range Day is less than 16 hours away – so:
What’s happening, exactly, and when ?
10:00 AM UK Time (GMT/UTC)
This is the official beginning of our 24 hours of awareness-raising.
Exactly when it starts in your particular part of the world is a little tricky to decide, though.
According to the interwebs, that’s 1PM on the 15th in Vancouver, 2 PM in Moscow and 10PM in Sidney – which would mean Australia has missed most of it !
So, please feel free to start celebrating #DRD12 whenever seems sensible to you – if things kick off a little early in Australia, so much the better, we’ll all join in here !
Why the need for all the timezones ?
Because this year Dynamic Range Day is fully global – we have over 40 nearly 50 local “MeetUp” communities happening, and counting – in all of those locations, and all around the world:
London, Cambridge, Berlin, Lima, Novi Sad, Mexico City, Bangkok, Bogota, Brooklyn, Bucharest, Edinburgh, Hamburg, Johannesburg, Miami, Sydney, Sheffield, Warsaw, Sao Paulo and more…
To find a MeetUp near you, click here.
If you’re attending a MeetUp – please take some photos, shoot some video, record some audio – and post it on the wall of our Facebook page. We’ll do our best to re-share it and keep everybody up to date with what’s happening.
12:00 AM (GMT/UTC) – My presentation at the Northbrook College MeetUp
I’ll be giving a short talk at Northbrook College here in the UK – lecturer Ben Simmonds (aka musician Ben Burns) has set up an open MeetUp there. I’ll be answering questions and attending workshops in the afternoon, and Ben has also asked Dan Arnold from the Qemists to give his own perspective from the “sharp end” of the Loudness War. There’ll also be the chance to assess the dynamics of your own music.
All being well I’ll get some video of things and post them online in the near future – if you’re nearby please come along, you’ll be very welcome !
9:00 PM UK Time (GMT/UTC) is 2PM PDT is 7AM (on the 17th) in Australia
Here’s a time to make a note of, whatever timezone you’re in.
All being well, this is when we’ll hold the live webcast, including myself and two founder members of TurnMeUp – Grammy-winner Charles Dye, and the legendary Allen “Big Al” Wagner, of the Project Studio Network fame.
I’ll be doing another short presentation, we’ll be answering some of the questions that have come in over recent weeks, we’ll pass on any news that comes in from the various MeetUps, and you can ask us questions via the chat room.
And of course we’ll also be announcing the winner of the all-important Dynamic Range Day Award, and the winners of the Dynamic Range Day Competition ! This could be you – so if you haven’t entered yet, do it now !
Even if you can’t do anything else for DRD, this time of day is when
I’d really like you to make an effort to get online and join in.
Please post messages on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, including links to the webcast, Facebook page and this website. Let’s cook up as much activity as we can – maybe we’ll even get it trending this year! Use the hashtag #DRD12 so people can follow what’s going on.
The webinar will last around an hour, but don’t worry if you can’t see it – we’ll be recording and it’ll be available to watch later.
To register for the webinar, click here.
After that I’ll be collapsing in a heap in my own personal timezone, once I can tear myself away from the computer – but please feel free to keep up the energy right through to the end of the day, wherever you are.
What are you doing for Dynamic Range Day ? Tell us in the comments !
