People outside the music industry just don't understand the Loudness War.
When I explain it to them, when I get to the end, they always look at me in bewilderment and say:
"Why ?"
Why do people make master music at super-high levels when listeners set the volume, when broadcast and players and online streaming remove the differences ? Why ?
And the answer is something that no-one likes to say out loud.
It's fear.

Most people don’t notice the effects of “loudness”
Most people who do, don’t like it
“Loudness” has no effect on sales or chart placements
In the near future, all music will play back at a similar level, regardless of how “loud” it is
